Greta Garbo S Colorful Midtown Co-Op Already Has A Buyer

Well, that didn’t take long: After just one month on the market, legendary actress Greta Garbo’s former Sutton Place apartment has already found a buyer. Mansion Global reports that the three-bedroom apartment, located within the exclusive Campanile co-op on East 52nd Street, is already in contract.

Garbo purchased the apartment, which was being sold by members of her extended family, in 1953 and lived there until her death in 1990. Over the years, she customized the place to her tastes, which included plenty of color (lots of pink and green), built-in bookshelves, and lots of warm wood throughout. Some of the decorative elements, including the living room rug, were even designed by Garbo herself.

The apartment’s stunning East River views were a selling point for Garbo, who was reportedly reminded of her childhood in Stockholm by the location—and no doubt they were a selling point for its new owner, too. No word on who that person is yet, but they’re presumably rather wealthy: the Campanile allows only all-cash transactions for prospective buyers.
